Communities across Washington are currently responding to severe flooding that has displaced families, disrupted livelihoods, and damaged homes and infrastructure. United Ways of the Pacific Northwest is working alongside local United Ways and trusted community partners to support active disaster response and long-term recovery efforts across the region. This page provides up-to-date information on current recovery initiatives, available resources, and ways individuals, businesses, and partners can help support families and communities as they rebuild and regain stability.


LOCAL ACTIVE FLOOD RELIEF EFFORTS

Yakima Valley | Central Washington

  • United Way of Central Washington has established a local Disaster Recovery Fund to support the Central Washington communities facing wildfires, floods, severe storms, or other disasters. Donations will help displaced families with access to food, shelter, childcare, healthcare and other essential services.

Skagit County

  • United Way of Skagit County has set up the SKAGIT COUNTY DISASTER RELIEF FUND to help direct resources to the local communities and individuals most affected.
  • As they continue to respond to the recent flooding, United Way of Skagit County is in desperate need of volunteers to assist with cleanup and recovery efforts. Learn more about volunteering HERE.

Lewis County

Whatcom County

Pierce County

  • United Way of Pierce County has launched a flood relief information webpage for Pierce County individuals and families impacted by recent flooding. Several individuals and families have been displaced, including people who were living full-time in an RV campground. Those impacted include families with children, veterans, and seniors. This page will be updated regularly as the situation evolves. Emergency Management officials are continuing to assess damage.

Snohomish County

  • United Way of Snohomish County has activated a Disaster Relief Fund to support local relief and recovery efforts for residents displaced or otherwise negatively affected by this natural disaster. 1/2/2026 - Applications Open for $2.5 Million in Washington State Disaster Assistance

Governor Bob Ferguson is urging people whose homes were damaged December’s historic flooding to apply for $2.5 million in state assistance to help with their immediate needs. The funding is part of the $3.5 million unlocked with Governor Ferguson’s disaster declaration. The first $1 million was distributed in Disaster Cash Assistance by the Department of Social and Health Services to those most in need. The funding was distributed over five days to more than 2,600 households. More information about recovery assistance, including how to replace food lost in the flooding that was purchased using food benefits, is available at floodrecovery.wa.gov.

12/20/2025 - Governor Ferguson Provides Update on Historic Flooding in Washington

On Saturday, Governor Bob Ferguson joined King County Executive Girmay Zahilay, Colonel Kathryn Sanborn of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and members of the Washington National Guard at the Kent Armory to provide an update on the historic flooding across Washington state. Specifically, Ferguson addressed the moderate risk of potential levee failures and how state and county officials are preparing.

12/16/2025 - Governor Ferguson Signs Ammendment to Emergency Declaration

This morning, Governor Bob Feruson signed an amendment to his emergency declaration. The amendment adds details about specific impacts across 14 counties, activating state cash and benefits assistance programs to provide emergency support to Washingtonians faster. Ferguson also announced that he is directing $3.5 million in emergency funds to assist Washingtonians with relief and recovery. More details on the distribution of those funds will be available as soon as possible in the coming days.
Additionally, the Emergency Management Division is setting up Disaster Case Management, which will provide long-term assistance to Washingtonians to help them navigate available resources. Moreover, Washington state is actively working with FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, on applying for a Major Disaster Declaration. This declaration will unlock additional federal resources for individuals, governments and nonprofits.
The Governor is also working with leadership in the state House and Senate to move forward on first-week legislation to get additional resources, and working on getting a Major Disaster Declaration for emergency relief from the federal government.
