In the diverse world of curly hair care, The Curl Factor stands out as a beacon for individuals seeking effective and inclusive solutions. Trisha Hunter, a hair stylist of 23 years,  founded her company with the mission to simplify curly hair care for busy people and families. The Curl Factor offers high-quality, easy-to-use products backed by expert knowledge and "curl-powerment." The brand is dedicated to supporting every curl journey and fostering a united, inclusive community that celebrates every texture.

Hunter is one of the folks in Pierce County who has completed her Individual Savings Account Program (IDA) and has matched her $10,000 savings goal to go towards her business. With the funding from the Community Reinvestment Project, Hunter now has the funds to take her business to the next level.

“I heard about this program through the Black Business Collective.” Hunter said, “This is going to allow me to order more inventory, get product photos and social assets. Mainly, it will help me order more products that are the most expensive.”

When it came to working with her financial coach, Hunter said that for the most part, the experience was relatively easy. She and her coach sat down and went over all her bills and budget to strategize how she was going to reach her goal. The hardest part for her was being disciplined enough to put the money into the savings account.

“Being disciplined to put money in the savings account was hard, especially through the holidays. I usually go crazy, but I didn’t this time.”

The IDA program is designed to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to achieve their financial goals. By making strategic adjustments to their budget and spending habits, participants can take control of their finances, maximize their savings potential, and work toward long-term financial stability. Through personalized guidance and practical strategies, the program helps individuals develop sustainable money management skills that pave the way for a more secure financial future.

“This is such a great opportunity and it’s getting matched. I honestly haven’t heard of anything like this, so I was happy to jump on this.” Hunter replied when asked about what advice she would give to others who are interested in the program.

The Curl Factor is more than just a hair care brand; it's a movement towards embracing and celebrating natural curls in all their forms. With a focus on quality, inclusivity, and customer empowerment, The Curl Factor is making waves in the curly hair community, helping individuals achieve their best curl days with confidence and ease. United Way of Pierce County is proud to help support individuals such as Trisha Hunter and her financial goals to help create a stronger community.
