While floodwaters have receded across Washington State, the long-lasting impacts of the devastating floods in December 2025 remain. Many communities are still picking up the pieces, facing lives forever changed by the damage to homes, infrastructure, farms, and local services. Long after the headlines fade, the need for support during long-term recovery continues.
Now more than ever, Washington communities need sustained investment to fully recover. Recognizing this ongoing need, the Walmart Foundation has stepped up as a committed partner, generously granting $350,000 to United Ways of the Pacific Northwest to support long-term flood recovery efforts in flood impacted communities across the state.
“Recovery will be a long road ahead for many of these families as they try to restore their living situations. Because of support from companies and organizations like Walmart Foundation their communities will be able to help them recover. We are so grateful for this support. This amazing gift is getting used in combination with others to support the recovery of individual families across ten Washington Counties,” stated Jim Cooper, President & CEO of United Ways of the Pacific Northwest.
Thanks to Walmart Foundation’s donation, individuals and families impacted by the floods are beginning to experience relief. These funds help recovery organizations respond to real, evolving community priorities — from emergency shelter and home rebuilding to restoring utilities and assisting uninsured or underinsured families. Flexible funding like this is critical, ensuring resources are directed where they are needed most as recovery progresses.
In addition to financial support, Walmart also delivered four truckloads of essential products throughout the region — helping to meet emergent needs during the earliest days of recovery.
“Walmart supports the communities where our associates and customers live and work. During the December floods, our priority was to provide immediate relief through essential product donations from Walmart and separately, the Walmart Foundation made a grant to United Ways of the Pacific Northwest. We are proud to have played a role in the initial response, helping local organizations mobilize quickly to address the most urgent needs of Washington families as they began the recovery process.” Brooks Nelson, Director, Strategic Initiatives.
Walmart believes in showing up for their neighbors when they need it most. While progress has been made, there are still homes to rebuild, debris to clear, and individuals and families who need continued support. As Washingtonians, we have an opportunity — and a responsibility — to stand together and help our neighbors rebuild stronger, safer futures.
Together, through partnerships like this one, we can ensure that recovery doesn’t stop at short-term relief but continues until communities are fully restored.
