California is pioneering a bold new way to fund schools. The Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) is a law rooted in equity. It recognizes that students coming from low-income, foster care and English learner backgrounds require additional resources to succeed. With the passage of Proposition 30, LCFF stands ready to bring substantial new resources to youth in need.

However, this step forward for equity faces challenges. Convoluted information and political resistance threaten the equal access low-income students deserve.

Some politicians want to divert these funds to pet projects. Others aim to restore LAUSD staff jobs indiscriminately, without considering student benefit—leaving little to no money for the LAUSD students who need it most.

CLASS, a community coalition dedicated to equal opportunity in public education, demands that the District invest to preserve LCFF law and its original intent.
