Program Coordinator, Education (Grants & Partnerships)

Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Education Programs & Policy, the Program Coordinator, Education will oversee the organization’s education grants portfolio for Los Angeles County.  The Program Coordinator, Education will oversee capacity building efforts of the education partners funded by United Way, particularly those involved in the organization’s policy engagement strategy. This individual will work closely with a team leading advocacy efforts to involve cross-sector leaders including education advocates, school district administrators, elected officials, and other civic leaders to track and advocate for or against local, state and federal policy work related to our initiatives. and leading essential aspects of United Way’s LAUSD policy and advocacy efforts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage United Way’s education grants portfolio with comprehensive analysis of database to ensure each contract’s deliverables are met.
  • Manage and monitor all 55 grants within the Education portfolio to support our grantees and ensure their reports are up to date.
  • Oversee the organization’s Request For Proposal (RFP) process for the Education portfolio:
    • Develop and implement a matrix to capture all applicant submittals
    • Review, analyze, and recommend high potential applicants for consideration
    • Drive and ensure timely process for Education team review
  • Develop, build, and maintain relationships with key contacts at all organizational levels for each of the 55 grantee organizations currently funded by United Way.
  • Maintain regular communication with United Way’s grantees and share relevant information about resources and other partnerships offered by United Way; provide opportunities for their additional involvement in events and campaigns.
  • Identify, organize, and coordinate training for capacity building of specific grantees, particularly those involved in United Way’s Education policy and engagement strategy.
  • Partner with Director, Education and Program Officer, Education Policy & Advocacy, to plan and develop appropriate agendas for two convenings per year for Education grantees, to share accomplishments and provide networking opportunities.
  • Serve as liaison with MarComm, Development, and Community Impact to create opportunities for donor engagement with grantees in United Way’s Education portfolio.
  • Support United Way events and fundraise for HomeWalk.
  • Track and analyze relevant data from the grantee reports twice a year.  The analysis will provide:
    • Information and focus opportunities to consider in development of our strategies and goals
    • Articulate our impact via meaningful real-time statistics and stories
    • Content support for the creation of collateral and presentations
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in education policy and/or in organizing for strong accountability to community outcomes.  Proven track record in fund development or grants management. 
  • Education: BA degree or a suitable mixture of education and work experience.
  • Relationship-Building Skills: Must be able to build and maintain relationships with community, business, education, district leaders and stakeholders.
  • Community Knowledge: Priority will be given to applicants with experience working with the L.A. Unified School District, key decision makers and stakeholders (e.g. businesses, community, parent and teacher groups, etc.) from the Los Angeles region.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership skills (e.g. committed, honest, positive, able to inspire, creative, sense of humor, etc.) with a proven track record in managing broad-based efforts with a diverse set of stakeholders and partners.
  • Team Managing Skills: Able to work independently, yet is highly team oriented. Able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with business, community and educational leadership as well as coalition members to meet collective goals.  Collaborative in planning, decision-making, and problem-solving.
  • Organizational Skills: Proven ability to work in a participative and collaborative manner. Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet specific deadlines.
  • Communications Skills: Superior interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Must be able to speak and present to groups. Must be able to interact well with a diverse range of people, and to constructively give and receive feedback.
    • Proven ability to prepare clear and accurate reports, correspondence, and other written and oral communications to internal (e.g. Director, VP, Community Impact, CEO) and external stakeholders (e.g. community partners, civic leaders).
  • Must be able to exercise initiative, good judgement, flexibility, discretion and solid decision making.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Office applications.
