In Washington State, Latinos Unidos y Floreciendo (LUYF) has been at the forefront of advocating for the Latinx community, pushing for equality, justice, and positive change. With a vision of creating thriving, empowered communities, LUYF is a beacon for social change, bridging gaps and creating pathways for Latine families to access resources and opportunities. Through grassroots organizing, advocacy, and collaboration, Unidos WA is leading the way to a better future for all.

Founded on the belief that every person, regardless of background, deserves equal opportunities to succeed, LUYF works to ensure that the Latine community in Washington is not only heard, but also empowered. Whether it’s advocating for legislative changes, creating economic opportunities, or supporting educational growth, LUYF is committed to creating a society where all individuals have the opportunity to thrive and lead meaningful lives.

At the core of LUYF work is a recognition of the complex challenges faced by Latinx communities—including barriers to healthcare, quality education, equitable employment, and social justice. But their approach is solution-focused, aiming to dismantle systemic barriers while fostering a sense of unity and empowerment within the community.

LUYF is one of many organizations that received a mini community grant through United Way of the Columbia-Willamette, funded through the Community Reinvestment Project. The funds they received helped them put together their culturally specific community garden. In their garden, they are focused on growing culturally specific food for their community that they can then distribute. Often, members of the Latine community are unable to find foods they are familiar with or that remind them of home at local food pantries. Having a culturally specific garden not only provides a space for the community to come and work together but also find foods that mean more to them than folks realize.

As LUYF grows, so does its influence in shaping a more equitable and inclusive future for all Washington residents. They have proven that real change comes when communities unite, and that when we support one another, we all thrive.
