Join United Way on Thurs., Jan. 26
Register for the “Metro (Central)” location to meet at United Way of Greater Los Angeles headquarters in downtown Los Angeles at 7 p.m. before embarking on the count with us.
Mandated by the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and coordinated locally by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count is the largest homeless census count in the nation. Over the course of three days and nights, thousands of volunteers fan out across Los Angeles County to determine how many homeless individuals and families there are in the region, identify their demographic characteristics and the locations where they reside.
Those joining United Way for the January 26 count will:
- Enjoy a light dinner and networking with fellow volunteers
- Learn more about homelessness and United Way’s efforts from Chris Ko, Director of Homeless Initiatives
- Gather with other United Way supporters for training on how to do the count
- Go out to the local streets for the 1- to 2-hour count via foot or car (car volunteers needed!)
