JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction and guidance of the Director, Education Programs & Policy, the Data Coordinator will be responsible for measuring the impact of United Way’s initiatives in real-time. The Data Coordinator will be responsible for the systematic collection, monitoring, analysis, and reporting of data on United Way’s Education grant making, regional Linked Learning efforts, and policy/advocacy initiatives. The Data Coordinator will help create tools to measure, monitor, and report on the performance and impact of United Way’s Education initiatives at both the singular program level and system-wide level.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage and maintain data tracking system:

    • With the Education team, develop goals, data requirements, and performance standards for education initiatives that are aligned to the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Grant making:

    • Assist in the design of performance monitoring and evaluation plans for the education portfolio, including the collection and analysis of grant report data in line with results-based accountability.
  • Data collection:

    • Manage and track relevant data to: 1) inform our strategies and goals, and 2) resulting from our initiatives. This data will support the organization’s fundraising efforts by articulating our impact via meaningful real-time impact statistics and stories at the end of each quarter, at minimum, and providing content support for the creation of collateral and presentations.
  • Manage reports:

    • Generate reports and other informative documents on local, regional, state and national education data for United Way staff and coalition partners to support policy and advocacy efforts. 

  • Provide training and technical support to United Way staff and coalition partners on data collection methodologies, database managements, and other data-related practices.  

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                                                                                                                                                                                                                           

  • Experience:  Minimum 2 – 3 years relevant work experience collecting, analyzing, monitoring, and reporting on qualitative and quantitative data.  Minimum 2 – 3 years relevant work experience using web-based program data management tools and other data analysis and performance management software as appropriate.

  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or equivalent blend of education and work experience.

  • Knowledge Base: Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of education policy and/or in organizing for accountability to community outcomes. 

  • Relationship-Building Skills: Must be able to build and maintain positive working relationships with community, business, and educational leadership, as well as coalition members, district leaders, and stakeholders.

  • Community Knowledge: Priority consideration will be given to applicants with knowledge of or experience working with the L.A. Unified School District, key decision makers, and stakeholders (e.g. businesses, community, parent and teacher groups, etc.) from the Los Angeles region.

  • Team Managing Skills: Able to work independently, yet is highly team oriented.  Collaborative in planning, decision-making, and problem-solving.

  • Organizational Skills: Proven ability to work in a participative and collaborative manner. Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet specific deadlines.

  • Communication Skills: Superior interpersonal, oral and written communication skills:Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) required. 

    • Must be able to speak and present internally, as well as to coalition partners as needed. Must be able to interact well with a diverse range of people and provide and receive constructive feedback.
    • Proven ability to prepare clear and accurate reports, correspondence, and other written communications to internal (e.g. Director, VP of Community Impact, CEO) and external stakeholders (e.g. community partners, business, civic leaders).
